The Future of Work in Pharma

LifeSciHub Enables Pharma to Embrace the Highest Quality Expertise: Small Business "MicroVendors"

NEW YORK, NY—S. Jewels, Co-Founcer of LifeSciHub, the gig-economy online resource marketplace for life sciences R&D, released comments today regarding a report issued by McKinsey and Company, McKinsey Global Institute titled, Independent Work: Choice, Necessity and the Gig Economy.

The report notes a global trend toward “larger, more transparent, and more efficient marketplaces

to connect freelancers with buyers of their services”.  These online marketplaces are changing the scope, perceived benefits and risks, and the nature of the independent workforce.

S. Jewels, Co-Founder of LifeSciHub, and the LifeSciHub team have been researching these same labor force trends and with results similar to those articulated by the McKinsey authors. “I was pleased to see that the McKinsey team penned similar findings in their global research to what we found in the life sciences arena. Life Sciences may be more risk averse than other markets but the need to connect skilled workers to open projects is real and growing,” noted S. Jewels. “The strong talent pool of experienced, independent workers can be a huge asset to growing life sciences companies. The key is to connect them efficiently and effectively with current project opportunities. It’s not a trivial task but it is definitely fertile ground for tech-enabled innovation.”

The McKinsey publication notes that digital platforms for independent work are transformative.  S.  Jewels added, “Currently there are no digital gig-economy online resource marketplaces that address the growing contingent worker market in life sciences. The need continues to expand and LifeSciHub looks to meet that need with a market-driven online marketplace that efficiently connects hiring managers, independent consultants and HR professionals, and enables transactions around hiring, payment, cumulative work histories and ratings, and other actionable contingent work data and interactions.  We hope to bring value to all stakeholders in the project-based talent acquisition process.”
